Rare Jewels!
Before the Washington DC group was known as The Jewels, they had also had recorded under the names The Impalas and The Four Jewels. Their song "Opportunity" made it to the One Kiss Can Lead To Another Rhino box set, but the flip-side, "Gotta Find A Way", is pretty rare, I reckon.

Oh boy, I came across this gem at a charity sale today. Now I too can knit a Joan Crawford afghan! Joan looks so matronly, and I think that wig looks a *bit* off. And the gaze! Perfection. From 1972.

And for all the Mario nerds, I scanned the cheats for the card matching game in Super Mario Bros.3 from my 1990 Nintendo Power SMB3 strategy guide. I never play SMB3 without it and neither should you.

why do I have a horrible feeling that Joan Crawford made her housekeeper crochet that afghan and then passed it off as her own?

I was thinking that too! I didn't want to rip on her too hard in one post, but I KNEW somebody would say that:)

I was digging through a box of old cookbooks today and found a Bisquik promotional booklet from the 30s that claims that Bette Davis and Joan Crawford both LOVE LOVE LOVED bisquik products and served them at all their parties. YEAH, RIGHT!

Now I want to re-read Joan's lifestyle book and see if she mentions crocheting at all.

What's the title of this Joan book? I've never read any books by her or about her...And that's funny that they were hawking products in the 1930s, and of all things, Bisquik!

My Way of Life! It's this completely INSANE lifestyle book for women she wrote in the early 70s. It's amazing because it's packed with photographs of Joan hanging around her apartment showing off her jewels and gowns and drinking Diet Pepsi from wine goblets. If you squint real hard you can see all her Keane paintings hanging in the background, too.

I just started Crawford's Men this morning, and in the introduction the author talks about Joan saying, "You need to read my book, My Way of Life." THE HARD SELL!

I so need that book, but it seems sorta rare. I'll have to keep an eye out for it at the junk shops. And while I was looking for info on the book, I found this site:

Those are the Night Gallery screen caps I did a few months ago, ha! Thankfully, the web master had the decency not to use by bandwidth...

I think Joan Crawford is more likely to STAB someone with a crchet needle than use one for anything else >: P.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll let you know if I can go. And I have a question for ya, is your dog biscuit recipe "Katherine's secret" or did you get it from the web or a book? I was thinking about making some treats for x-mas gifts for my furry friends...
