Listen people, "Mike Patton is not God!"

So, a few months ago there was an episode of Days of Our Lives that mentioned Mike Patton and some of the bands he's been in. Obviously, there must be a writer on the show that's a fan of his and wanted to give a nod to Patton. Warning: What you are about to see will make you cringe and/or shudder, Mike Patton fan or not:

Can you freakin' believe this??? OMG, and I LOVE the line "You've been reading my blog!" Wow, those soap opera writers are really "hip." And sorry smooveazz, I don't think you can top this one in the Faith No More acts of dorkiness history book, but I'd like to see you try:)

Moving on, today I posted a 1960s soul/girl group single on Shrine Records by Les Chansonettes. One of the founders of Shrine was Raynoma Gordy Singleton, ex-wife of Berry Gordy.
Shrine Records are known for being rare because at the time the singles that were released were not big hits, and the unsold stock was destroyed by a fire in the 1968 Martin Luther King riots in D.C.

And if you like films that take place in early 1970s New York City, watch The Taking of Pelham One Two Three. Armed men hijack a subway and demand ransom for the passengers, but how will they escape being limited to the underground subway tunnels? Tarantino got the idea for the Mr.(insert color here) Reservoir Dogs character names from the hijacker characters in this film.

i've seen that clip before and is never ceases to annoy the heck out of me. soap actors are bad, but that's just terrible. "my momma took me to go see faith no more open for guns n roses." right. that white-bread upper class country club future stepford wife sneaking into a ROCK concert?

and, really, that girl knowing about mike patton, let alone anything else he's done besides faith no more?

someone needs to draw and quarter the writer for that, especially if he's/she's a fan, because that was friggen painful.

"...oh nono...shooters,"
that shit was scary. Shame on the fall and decline of the alternative section in the Tower Records that is going out of business....

But it happens.

anyway....thanks on the song. I love it, as I usually do with all the stuff you post. And gee...maybe I am a woman between 16 and 26 ...and thats why I just love retro....

There's so many levels of sickness going on in that scene! And I don't know if anybody else noticed, but when she she's retro and glam are "in", she cites Bowie annnnd Hanoi Rocks!?!?!? Just in case you need a visual:

I meant "when she SAYS retro..." :)

I have that on vinyl, and also the 12" with the Steppenwolf cover of Magic Carpet Ride...

....but yeah, I noticed that mention. I think it was her delivery that shook me to the bone...

HAHAHAHA - (ouch)
Man, that hurt.

It would have been a lot of more credible if she said "I saw Mike Patton perform with Naked City" (like I did !).

ha, NOW who's show boating? Just kidding:) And I'll counter that soap opera talk with, "Oh, you're into Zorn too? Rockin'! Now we can do business."

Re: HAHAHAHA - (ouch)
Ok, ok, here's my showboat: I never knew Faith No more with Mike Patton, I was more a Chuck guy. My sister lived with Roddy and Billy in the early 80s when they were "Faith No Man" and had Ian McCullough (?) type hiarcuts...but I'm old.

Na, that's not showboating! That's a cool fact Greg, thanks for sharing. And I think you're about the same age as my boyfriend Chris, early 40's, shall we say? Chris had a band in the 90s and they played a festival with FNM. I guess Chris ate lunch at a picnic table with Mike Patton and they didn't say one word to each other. Chris is pretty anti-social, no matter who the person is. And speaking of Chuck, last I knew of, he was living in Cleveland. Here's a pic I took of him registering to vote in the Fall of '04:

You can look at it two ways: yes, it's totally pathetic, lame and evokes a horrible visceral feeling. But, in the same breath, if it reaches a wider audience, it may become part of pop culture because it's so bad. When i was a kid, the Punk Quincy episode evoked the same emotions.

Oh, you'll love Pelham then. And I just watched The Warriors again recently, and I was a little disturbed at how cheesy it is now that I'm a bit older. But, it still has a lot of qualities I like, mainly the gritty 1970s NYC setting. And as for daytime soaps, I was a Y&R and B&B person. I can't recall any "rebellious" teenagers like this Hayley Vaughn character, but the Y&R had a concert episode of Michael Damian signing "Rock On" How bloody awful is THAT song!?! And I also wanted to tell you that I've been thinking about you lately because of your friend. I just really don't know what to say...I guess that's why I have not commented...Anyhow, I hope you're feeling better:)

My favorite moment of this whole clip is at the end where she says, "My mom took me to see FNM open up for Guns N Roses"...all of a sudden, the Patton-lover is impressed--"NO WAY!" he shouts.

I want to puke.

haha, thanks for that, it was hilarious! days of our lives attempts cred and fails miserably - what a surprise!! i think my favourite lines were 'you've read my blog.' and 'no one cares about mike patton anymore'.
and thanks for the fab chansonettes song!

You're welcome! And thanks in return for that Hearts of Soul song. I had that LP on my Ebay watch list a week or two ago, but the darn thing went for $50. I'm much happier with the free song I got from you:)

Ha! I put an early bid on that and yep, watched it fetch way more than I could afford. That's what sent me mp3 hunting. I have a b&w clip of the performance I might post, but I'm trying to get a good quality colour one. There's one on youtube - bad quality, but you can see the colours are really lovely.
